New Train Ride , Hoboke to Giants Stadium
The inaugural train ride from Hoboken to Giants stadium brought out the big shots including NJ Gov. Corzine (D), Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano, NY Jets owner Robert Wood Johnson IV, NY Giants owner John Mara and Congressman Steve Rothman . They were joined by a handful of Giants players eagerly awaiting the start of the season, or at least pre-season.
The the new rail link, intended as a means to attract more people to Giants stadium and Xanadu entertainment complex, is hailed by many as a major step forward for public transportation in New Jersey.
Many of us also hope that will also help to lessen pre and post game traffic on New Jersey’s Route 3.
To ensure profitability the link will initially only be operational for major sporting events which attract over 50,000 to include all the Giants and Jets season and pre-season game -one hopes post season also- and major Giants stadium concerts . The first such happening is Sunday, July 26 for the CONCACAF Gold Cup soccer title match at Giants Stadium. ( The US continues to defend its title against Honduras on Thursday July 23)
